In the Summer

When the snow melts you are free to swim or explore our beautiful Kootenay Lake by sailboat, kayak, canoe or powerboat. Raft or kayak class 3 rapids on the Slocan River, or take a relaxing and scenic float on tire tubes or inflatable rafts. Golf one of the areas numerous, award winning courses with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and Kootenay Lake. Mountain biking, hiking and climbing adventures surround Nelson. Nelson is famous for the arts and our community spirit. Voted as the “Best ski town in North America in 2012” by Powder Magazine as well as the “Best small arts town in North America”, we boast numerous art galleries and an award winning museum. Enjoy live theatre at Nelson’s historic Capitol Theatre , the TNT Playhouse, and the summer’s Shakespeare and Nelson History Theatre in the Park. Take in our downtown summer Art Walk or take a stroll on a Nelson Historical tour.

Hot Springs & More

An easy drive north of Nelson will find you soaking in the natural mineral springs at Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort. Relax as you swim through the sauna like caves where the mineral water falls from the cave roof into a waist deep pool. Just a few minutes north of Ainsworth will bring you to The Cody Caves Provincial Park where you can take beginner to adventurous tours of the world below in the limestone cave system.
